From Hibernation to Heart Failure: Myosin as Energetic Gatekeeper of Cardiac Function

From Hibernation to Heart Failure: Myosin as Energetic Gatekeeper of Cardiac Function

Julien Ochala, PhD, FACC
Associate Professor
University of Copenhagen

Biography

Julien Ochala is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen. His work explores how the molecular machinery of muscle adapts to changing energetic demands, from the remarkable metabolic economy of hibernation to the energetic challenges associated with heart disease. By combining studies of human and mammal tissues with biophysical, molecular and physiological approaches, his research seeks to better understand how cardiac muscle function is maintained, disrupted and potentially restored.

Abstract

The seminar will highlight the central role of myosin in this process and discuss how fundamental discoveries in muscle biology may inform new approaches to cardiovascular disease.
