From 20 May 2026 to 19 June 2026false false
Initial duration of the contract : 16 months
Offer Description
As part of scientific projects led by Pr. Alban Baruteau, the research unit of l’institut du thorax is recruiting a researcher to strengthen its research activities dedicated to identifying the genetic determinants and biological mechanisms involved in complex congenital heart diseases.
The successful candidate will join the Human Genetics team led by Jean-Jacques Schott, within an interdisciplinary scientific environment bringing together clinicians, geneticists, cell biologists, bioinformaticians, and state-of-the-art technological platforms.
The scientific project aims to improve the understanding of the molecular and functional bases of complex forms of congenital heart disease by integrating approaches in human genetics, functional genomics, and biological validation.
The position is offered for a duration of 16 months and involves strong scientific interactions with the teams of Nantes Hospital, the site’s technological platforms, and national and international academic collaborators.
The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment requiring autonomy, scientific rigor, and the ability to interact across multiple disciplines.
The recruited researcher will contribute to the identification, prioritization, and functional characterization of genetic variants involved in these diseases using multi-omics data and relevant biological models. Their work will be part of a translational research strategy integrating clinical data, genetic analyses, and functional validation.
On a day-to-day basis, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to:
- contribute to the analysis and interpretation of genetic sequencing data (WGS/RNA-Seq), including family-based analyses, variant prioritization, and phenotypic data integration;
- participate in the identification of biological mechanisms associated with candidate variants using molecular and cellular biology approaches;
- develop and implement functional validation strategies to assess the biological impact of variants associated with congenital heart diseases and cardiac rhythm disorders;
- integrate and interpret data generated from various omics and functional approaches;
- participate in scientific discussions with clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians, and project partners;
- contribute to the writing of scientific publications, the preparation of presentations for national and international conferences, and the development of collaborative research projects.

- strong background in human genetics and genomics;
- solid knowledge of molecular and cellular biology;
- experience with next-generation sequencing technologies (WGS/WES);
- strong interest in cardiovascular diseases, particularly congenital heart diseases;
- proficiency in written and spoken scientific English.
Technical Skills
- ability to interpret complex genetic data;
- ability to work at the interface of genetic, biological, and clinical data;
- experience in functional validation or strong interest in experimental approaches;
- ability to communicate scientific results to multidisciplinary teams;
- strong scientific writing skills for publications and research proposals.
Personal Skills

- strong organizational skills;
- collaborative mindset;
- scientific rigor;
- ability to work in an interdisciplinary translational research environment.
Specific Requirements
The position involves close interaction with the clinical teams of Nantes hospital, technological platforms, and national and international academic collaborators.
Participation in scientific meetings, dissemination and promotion of research results, and the writing of scientific publications are integral parts of the position.
Work in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2/L2) laboratory may be required depending on experimental needs.
